Acceptable use

Draft prepared October 2026

Effective date: [DATE]

This policy is part of the Chat7 Terms of Service. There is zero tolerance for the content and behaviour below.

1. What you must not do

Do not use Chat7 to send, post, share or arrange:

  1. Child sexual abuse material or any sexualisation or exploitation of minors, including grooming. We report it to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and ban the account.
  2. Intimate images of someone without their consent, including AI-generated or altered ones, or threats to share them.
  3. Threats, incitement or promotion of violence, terrorism or violent extremism.
  4. Harassment or bullying, including unwanted contact after someone has blocked you or deleted your message request, or contacting someone through new accounts.
  5. Hate: attacking people for race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, caste, sexual orientation, sex, gender identity, disability or serious disease.
  6. Spam and bulk messaging: unsolicited commercial messages, automated or mass messaging, or buying, selling or scraping accounts or phone numbers.
  7. Fraud and scams: phishing, impersonation of a person or business (including a contractor), fake invoices, fake bids, or payment fraud.
  8. Illegal goods and services: drugs, weapons trafficking, human trafficking, sexual services, stolen goods or data.
  9. Malware or anything designed to harm devices or accounts.
  10. Private information of others shared without permission (doxxing), including someone's tax ID or financial details.
  11. Infringing content that violates someone's copyright, trademark or other rights.
  12. Self-harm promotion. If someone is at risk, contact local emergency services.

Also do not:

  • interfere with Chat7, probe or attack our systems, or try to defeat limits, captcha or verification;
  • use modified or unofficial apps to get around privacy settings such as Block AI summaries or Snippet audiences;
  • use Chat7 to collect phone numbers or build contact lists;
  • sign up with a number that isn't yours, or use the service if you are under 18.

Contractors using Chat7 through Northdesk must also follow Northdesk's terms, send invites only to people they have a real relationship with, and follow texting consent rules (STOP means stop).

2. How moderation works with end-to-end encryption

Chats, calls and Snippets are end-to-end encrypted, so we cannot read or scan them. Moderation relies on:

Tool What it does
Reporting Anyone can report a person, message, Snippet, task or Dex rundown from inside the app. A report includes the reporter's own decrypted copy of the reported message and up to the 5 messages before it; media only if the reporter chooses to attach it. The app shows what will be sent.
Blocking Block a person or a company from any chat or message request. Blocked people can't message you or see your Snippets.
Message requests Optional. First messages from people who aren't in your contacts wait in Requests, where you can accept, delete, block or report. Until you accept, the sender sees no read receipts or online status and isn't told if you delete the request.
Profile review Names, photos and "about" text are not end-to-end encrypted and can be reviewed and filtered.
Forwarding limits Messages forwarded many times can be forwarded to one chat at a time.
Content-free signals Account age, new chats with people who don't have you as a contact, sending rate, how often your message requests are deleted, block and report rates, invite volume, and optional phone-number reputation at sign-up.
Rate limits New chats with people who don't have you as a contact: 10 an hour and 50 a day (5 and 20 in an account's first day). When 3 or more people delete your requests, block you or report you within 30 days, this drops to 2 an hour and 5 a day; at 10 or more, new chats with strangers stop until our team reviews the account or the signals age out. Also 30 reports and 30 Snippets per person per day, and 200 invites per company per day.

Because a report is the reporter's own copy, we cannot cryptographically prove it is genuine. We weigh it with the other signals and context.

3. What happens after a report

  1. The report reaches our review queue and alerts our team.
  2. We aim to act on reports within 24 hours.
  3. Possible actions: no action; a warning; removing content we can access (profiles, company Snippets, reported media held in our reports store); rate-limiting; suspension; a permanent ban.
  4. Child sexual abuse material is reported to NCMEC's CyberTipline as required by 18 U.S.C. 2258A, with the information we have, and the account is banned.
  5. Non-consensual intimate images: a person depicted (or their representative) can request removal at support@getchat7.com. We remove what we can access within 48 hours of a valid request, as the TAKE IT DOWN Act requires, and explain that we cannot remove copies already delivered to other people's devices.
  6. Credible threats to life are referred to law enforcement.
  7. Reports are kept for 1 year.

4. Appeals

If we restrict your account, you can appeal by emailing support@getchat7.com from the app's Help screen within 30 days. A different reviewer looks at the appeal where possible.

5. Contact

Reports: inside the app (fastest), or support@getchat7.com. Law enforcement: [LAW ENFORCEMENT EMAIL].
